Dating is a game — master the rule.

While dating it is inevitable to turn down a few people before you find “the one” or to be rejected yourself. Dating is a process, and having a few rules to live by can make it less confusing in the world of online love.

1. Don’t Take It All So Seriously

Enjoy the dating experience and relax. Keep in mind that it’s important not to see every date as a potential wife or husband. Date for the fun of it, not just for the goal of getting a partner.

2. Keep an Open Mind

People are different and have their own interests, sometimes they don’t fit your “go-to” type. But that doesn’t mean you should write them off immediately. Talk to them, learn about their views and hobbies, culture — simply give them a chance. What do you have to lose anyway?

3. Don’t Keep Anyone Holding On If You’re Not Interested

Be clear with your intentions. If you know you’re not going anywhere, simply get in touch and let them know. That’s better than telling someone halfway through a date that you’re not into them or ghosting them right after the date. You can thank them for a great time spent together but also let them know that you’re not feeling it. This is some type of responsibility you should take up for yourself.

4. Stay Safe

Coronavirus-wise and in general — your safety is the most important when dating. If you don’t feel comfortable or safe, feel free to say no and leave. If you’re meeting up with someone from a dating app, check out our safety list which can help you to make good choices from start to finish.

5. Don’t Be Clingy

Well, at least not after the first date. Obtrusiveness is a no-no. Yes, open communication is important, but the other party doesn’t expect you to send ten messages each hour. Keep it simple just to show your interest and respect their space.

Dating in a foreign country and especially such a vibrant city as Budapest is exciting but can be a wasteland at the same time. You probably will meet a bunch of people before you find the right one. Just don’t expect that you’ll meet that perfect person immediately and follow our simple rules to have a great start.

Are there any dating rules you’re trying to follow? Let us know in the comments.
